Sakthila Jeyakumar, BVSc (Hons I), MS
Diplomate, American College of Veterinary Surgeons – Small Animal
Dr. Jeyakumar was born in Sri Lanka and grew up in Sydney, Australia. In 2008, she graduated from the University of Sydney Australia with a Bachelor in Veterinary Science. During her time, she did additional training in wildlife medicine. Her interest in surgery started as a student when she worked at a specialty referral hospital. At the University of Sydney, she completed an honors thesis focusing on recovery following Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy (TPLO) surgery.
After graduation, she moved to United States to start an internship in Small Animal Medicine and Surgery at Mississippi State University. Following the internship she was accepted to Small Animal Surgery residency program at the Auburn University. In addition, she pursued a Masters in Biomedical Science and performed a research in Surgical Oncology. She also taught veterinary students in both surgical laboratories and in a clinical setting. Dr. Jeyakumar received wide training in soft tissue, orthopedic and neurological surgery. She has advanced training in minimally invasive surgery including laparoscopy and arthroscopy.
Following residency, Dr. Jeyakumar moved to Ohio to work in private practice. In 2016 she became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons. She joined Chesepeake Veterinary Surgical Specialists (CVSS) in 2016 and is based at our Towson office.
She is a member of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons (ACVS), Veterinary Surgical Oncology Society (VSSO), American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) and AO Vet.
Dr. Jeyakumar resides with her husband in the suburbs of Baltimore. They have one dog, a rescue name Udi. In her spare time, she likes to hike and enjoy the great outdoors
