About Our Practice

Internship Program

Chesapeake Veterinary Surgical Specialists established its internship program in 2000. For more than 20 years, our practice has proven incredible success in helping surgical interns achieve their goal to become board-certified veterinary surgeons.

Surgical Residency Program

CVSS offers up to two surgical residency position(s) each year. Our residents are selected only from our surgical intern pool.

State of the Art Facility

Chesapeake Veterinary Surgical Specialists is a part of the Chesapeake Veterinary Referral Center (CVRC), a specialty veterinary hospital and emergency center offering ten medical and rehabilitation disciplines for dogs and cats, including: cardiology, emergency, internal medicine, oncology, neurology, ophthalmology, rehabilitation, radiology, radiation therapy and surgery.

A career with CVSS means joining a team dedicated to cutting-edge, evidence-based advanced surgical and rehabilitation care for dogs and cats in the Mid-Atlantic. Our staff is among the best of the best in advanced veterinary surgery, anesthesia management, in-hospital care and canine rehabilitation. What began in 1992 as a single location in Annapolis, Maryland’s capital city, grew over the last 25 years to include two additional locations in the Baltimore area and in Columbia, Maryland. In 2023, our Baltimore-area hospital is relocating to a brand new, 46,000 square foot facility in Cockeysville, Maryland where no expense is spared on providing the best environment for advanced veterinary surgery.

Chesapeake Veterinary Surgical Specialists is a member of Chesapeake Veterinary Referral Center (link to CVRC website) a coalition of board-certified veterinary specialists in the disciplines of emergency medicine and critical care, surgery, canine rehabilitation, internal medicine, oncology, cardiology, eye care, neurology and advanced imaging. All three CVSS locations are co-located with 24-hour emergency practices that offer around-the-clock monitoring and intensive care for our patients. Our direct access to a multitude of other veterinary specialists in all three of our locations means that we are able to offer cross-specialty care for the most complex cases.
