Krista L. Evans, DVM, CCRT

Dr. Evans grew up locally on the Eastern Shore in Salisbury, Maryland. Her interest in veterinary medicine began in high school as she worked as an assistant for a local veterinary hospital.

Dr. Evans attended the University of Georgia and obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture. She elected to remain in Georgia to attend the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine, where she also met her husband, Dr. Joe Prostredny; they married during her junior year of veterinary school. She graduated cum laude from veterinary school in 1988 and received Hill’s Student of the Year Award for her publication on feline hepatic lipidosis.

Dr. Evans then completed a one-year small animal internship at the Purdue University. Seeking more surgical experience she interned at the Tennessee Avenue Animal Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Upon completion of her surgical internship Dr. Evans accepted a surgical residency at The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine which concluded in 1993. In 1994 Dr. Evans became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons (ACVS) after passing all divisions of the certifying examination.

Dr. Evans is active in local and national professional organizations. She has served as president of the Anne Arundel Veterinary County Association (AAVMA); is president-elect of the Maryland Veterinary Medical Association (MVMA); and sits on the Board of Directors of the Veterinary Orthopedic Society (VOS). She has served multiple committees for the American College of Veterinary Surgeons (ACVS), including residency and strategic planning committees, and is presently on the nominating committee. Dr. Evans has spoken, moderated, and taught veterinary surgical laboratories at local and national meetings, including the American College of Veterinary Surgeons; the Veterinary Orthopedic Society; the Central Veterinary Conference; the Potomac Veterinary Conference; the Maryland Veterinary Medical Association; the Anne Arundel County Veterinary Medical Association; and for Chesapeake Veterinary Referral Center (CVRC).

Dr. Evans has special interests in all aspects of small dog surgery, laparoscopy, and rehabilitation. In 2006 Dr. Evans expanded her surgical skills by completing the basic and advanced courses in laparoscopy at the University of Georgia. In 2008 she became a certified canine rehabilitation therapist (CCRT) and developed the rehabilitation program at Chesapeake Veterinary Surgical Specialists (CVSS). She divides her clinic time between surgery and canine rehabilitation.

Dr. Evans and Dr. Prostredny have two daughters, Katerina and Michaela.
