Dr. Prostredny founded Chesapeake Veterinary Surgical Specialists (CVSS) when he moved to Annapolis in 1992. In 1993 he was joined by his wife, Dr. Krista Evans. They were among the first board-certified small animal surgical specialists in the state of Maryland. In 1993, Drs. Prostredny and Evans initiated the formation of the Chesapeake Veterinary Referral Center (CVRC) with multiple specialty referral practices and emergency care.

Dr. Prostredny obtained his Bachelor of Science in Agriculture degree from the University of Georgia and graduated Magna Cum Laude from the School of Veterinary Medicine in 1987. He completed a one-year internship in small animal medicine and surgery in 1988 at the University of Georgia. Dr. Prostredny continued his surgical training at Purdue in 1988 and completed the residency program and obtained his master’s degree in 1991. Dr. Prostredny became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons (ACVS) after passing the certifying examination in 1992.

Dr. Prostredny is trained in advanced orthopedic, soft tissue, and neurosurgery. He is certified to perform advanced cranial cruciate ligament repair (TPLO and TTA), hip replacement, elbow replacement, and sliding humeral osteotomies for elbow dysplasia. He is also trained in arthroscopy. Dr. Prostredny has extensive experience in hip replacements with over 26 years of experience and training in both the BioMedtrix and Helica systems.

Dr. Prostredny is a member of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons (ACVS), the Veterinary Orthopedic Society (VOS), the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), the Maryland Veterinary Medical Association (MVMA) and the Anne Arundel Veterinary Medical Association (AAVMA). He has lectured and taught numerous labs at ACVS, and for the MVMA; he has lectured at VOS, AAVMA, and numerous local dog clubs. In 2011, Dr. Prostredny completed the certifying requirements for the Canine Rehabilitation Institute and is now a certified canine rehabilitation therapist (CCRT). He is based in our Annapolis office.

Dr. Prostredny enjoys music of all kinds, and is also a live music photographer. He also enjoys scuba diving, ballroom dance, and world travel.
