Dr. Roa grew up along the Delaware River in the Poconos region of Northeastern Pennsylvania, where he kindled a lifelong love of outdoor activities and nature. Fishing, watersports and hiking were central activities during his formative years.

He attended the University of Pennsylvania and graduated with a BA in Biology in 1988. At Penn, he was a member and President of the Alpha Chi Rho fraternity, an active participant in a variety of intramural sports, and a veterinary assistant in the busy small animal emergency service at the veterinary school.

Dr. Roa attended the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine (UF), and graduated summa cum laude and valedictorian. At UF he was the recipient of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons Award, the Hill’s Senior Student Award, the Merck and Company Award, the Phi Zeta Award for Excellence, the Ramcharger Prize in Anesthesia, and the Upjohn Award for Proficiency in Veterinary Clinical Medicine.

Following veterinary school, Dr. Roa completed a rotating internship in small animal medicine and surgery at The Animal Medical Center in New York City. He then continued his residency training at the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine, before joining joining CVSS in 1998. He became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons (ACVS) after passing the certifying examination in 1999.

Dr. Roa has been a partner in the practice since 2001. During his tenure, CVSS has grown to one of the most prestigious surgical practices in the country. Dr. Roa is a highly experienced orthopedic surgeon, having performed thousands of successful TPLO’s. He also maintains a strong interest and high caseload in soft tissue, oncologic and spinal surgery. When not at the office, Dr. Roa shares his time with his wife Janet, their three boys AJ, Luke and Sam, a yellow Lab named Midas, Donatello the turtle, a bearded dragon named Puff and whatever other creatures find a way into their home. Time permitting, travel, scuba diving, golf and skiing make the list of recreational pursuits.

Dr. Roa is a member of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons (ACVS), the Veterinary Orthopedic Society (VOS), the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), the Maryland Veterinary Medical Association (MVMA) and the Anne Arundel Veterinary Medical Association (AAVMA). He has lectured and taught numerous labs at various local, national and international meetings.
